Bambi

Bambi was the first episode of the second series of The Young Ones. In my view it is the best of them all. Starting with a trip to the launderette and ending with an appearance on University Challenge, Bambi includes a manic dash to the station to the dulcet strains of Motörhead, then Vyvyan accidentally loses his head before they almost get refused entry to the TV studios because of the pig, Bacon Sandwich.

This was first shown on BBC2 on Monday 8 May 1984. My dad had just invested in a Fidelity television and radio slash record player combi, complete with a tape deck. We used the tape deck to very good effect to record the soundtrack of this one and then played it ad nauseum. For that reason, as well as being the best, it's also the episode that I remember best.

Bambi has a wide range of additional actors. From Robbie Coltrane to Tony Robinson, Emma Thompson, Fry & Laurie, and Mel & Griff they're all there. We also have a cameo from Ben Elton as Mr Kendal Mintcake, 'I'm alright, 'cause my Daddy's bought me the Socialist Workers' Party for my birthday!'
